Paraguay to Host Historic WRC Ueno Rally Paraguay 2025

by Donna DeMeglio

Paraguay is gearing up to make history as it hosts the WRC Ueno Rally Paraguay 2025 — the country’s official debut on the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar. Scheduled for August 28–31, this thrilling motorsport event, known for its intensity and global prestige, is expected to draw international attention, thousands of visitors, and lasting benefits to the Itapúa region.

To support the event and maximize its impact, the Paraguayan government has launched the “Rally Legacy Plan,” a national initiative focused on enhancing infrastructure and services that will endure well beyond the rally. A cornerstone of this plan is the expansion of Teniente Amín Ayub International Airport in Encarnación, which will begin operating permanently as an international airport on August 7. This upgrade aims to improve air connectivity for tourism and logistics, both during the event and in the long term.

Officials from the National Directorate of Civil Aviation (DINAC) and the Ministry of Tourism recently visited the airport to oversee progress. Their joint inspection reflects a broader, coordinated effort among government agencies to ensure a seamless arrival experience for rally teams, international delegations, and spectators. A new passenger facility is also under construction to better accommodate travelers and institutional staff.

Tourism Minister Angie Duarte emphasized that all entry points into Paraguay must be fully prepared to support the scale and prestige of the WRC. She described the Encarnación airport as a “key gateway” for both the rally and the region’s future as a growing tourism hub.

The WRC Ueno Rally Paraguay 2025, backed by title sponsor Ueno, will be the 10th stop on the WRC’s global calendar. It represents a significant milestone for Paraguay as it welcomes elite drivers, media coverage, and motorsport fans from around the world.

More than just a sporting event, the rally is being positioned as a catalyst for regional development. Through the Rally Legacy Plan, Paraguay is not only preparing to deliver a world-class competition — it is also laying the groundwork to solidify its standing as an emerging destination for international sports, tourism, and investment. Long-term improvements in transportation and public services are expected to boost the local economy and elevate Itapúa as a host for future global events.
